Three of us went out for opening day of the second half. Shooting was ok, 4 greenwing teal and 1 mallard hen. Mostly teal and black ducks. few mallards before shooting time. Hopefully mother nature will cool it down so the shooting will get better for the rest of the season. Good luck all

Hunted the second half opener today. The 2 of us did pretty good for what was flying. Ended up with 5 teal 2 black ducks and one hooded merg. Not a whole lot of mallards around there anyway. We saw just black ducks and teal and the one merg and a few flocks of high flying geese.

I’m tired of shooting geese, can’t wait fir the ducks. Since Sept. we killed 96 geese(limits every time out). Havcen’t seen much mallards but seen hoodies, ringnecks(100 in one flock), bufflehead, a few gawall and shovelers, snows(were I can’t gwet at them), and a buch of woodies if the cold doesn’t blow them out. The migration is starting

Hunted Geese with the guys today seeing as it was last day for couple of weeks. Had a great day, bagged 2 banded birds, my 1 was a first for me. Limited by 8:45. At least my shooting was better than last weekend. Can’t wait till the season opens again.

– Gray Lodge 10-31-2001 17:45
Cloudy, Winds Calm – 60-65 Degrees
I have hunted Gray Lodge twice this year and keep running into the same problem, “sky-skrapers” or hunters who do not realize the capabilities of their firearms. I have been hunting out of lots 1 and 2 and heading west. There has been plenty of birds, but it is difficult to bring the birds down without other hunters practicing their marksmenship on birds 70+ yards up. Does anyone have any recommendations as to a location at Gray Lodge where the hunting is good, and the number of hunters is less concentrated.

Last goose outing of first half. Not as many birds around as last week. Three of us got 5 birds. Got ’em all from 1 group. Last bird was working our spread until farmer drove up in his tractor. Oh well.

Since duck is closed, went turkey hunting this eve with my dad, or I should say my dad took me. He has been seeing alot of turkeys while bow hunting (just to give him credit, he got a 6 pointer about 2 weeks ago with the bow). So we sent out for the shotgun tags and decided to give it a try. The turkeys have been coming out into the corn field around 5:30. We set up at 4, put the decoy out (we don’t know how well they work in the fall but put it out anyway) Around 5:15 4 Toms came out into the field. Around 5:35 they walked over towards the end my dad has been seeing them go back into the woods. We called alittle and they walked right in. They got to 12-15 yards and we shot. When the smoke cleared we got 3 out of the 4 Toms.

Another incredible day afeild. Morning was slow couldn’t get the birds to work but the afternoon was a different story. We limited very quickly and had to stop hunting while birds were still pouring in I’ll Try some more this week.

Deployed all of my decoys for the first time. 100 geese were in the area and I had my chances but couldn’t get any to drop even though I was using the $2 apiece exotic metas. In between seasons I,m going to do some serious gunning practice.
