Nothing new to report here. Hopefully something will happen in the near future to change things but so far it’s been one heck of a slow season.
Goodluck for the next few weeks.
Hit em’ hard.

hunted most of last week with things being relatively slow except for a few decent hunts. thought the rain on monday would have brought about some better hunts but it was a dissappointment for most from what I have heard. the same pit that was doing so well for us only managed a few birds in the rain. Not seeing many new birds due to the warm weather and south winds. I did however notice that yesterday after the north winds and bright night that a holding pond off of route 1 was holding around 500-800 canadas that have not been there all year, unsure whether they moved in with the bright night or just moved to another loafing pond. To me the season is pretty much a bust since we have about 3 weeks left and no weather in sight but you cant kill them if you dont go so I will be out in force for the last 3 weeks, hopefully something gives

A few dozen mallards and a few dozen Canadas. A lot of activity far out in the river, a few southern marshes had some shooting on Saturday.

Hunted at a friends place this morning and we managed our limit of Canadas. We even managed two stray mallards that happened to dive in to the goose decoys. Other than today my hunting season has been quiet. Did I mention how much I love winter wheat.

Hunted our field this morning for Canadas and never picked our guns. Saw a good number of birds but all in big groups. Never even had any give us a look. Everyone of the groups went inland. No wind and no weather is gonna make it real hard to get anything done.

Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 50-60 Degrees
hunted a pit again up against bombay hook on friday afternoon in the rain and managed a very good hunt in the cornfield. 6 of us managed our 24 mallards and 5 blacks faling just short of our mallard and black limit. it was an awesome shoot with the birds working in very well once the rain started. I was however dissappointed in the number of birds that we saw or didnt see for that matter. what we saw for the most part came to the decoys, we usually see a good bunch of birds that come out and keep going this time most of the birds that we managed to bring to the decoys were headed back into the hook, and we did not have a canada even pay any attention to the bigfeet and avery fullbodies, in weeks past we had seen a good number of pintails come out to the cornfields to feed but that was not the case this time just mallards and blacks. the blacks were not mixed in with the mallards they came all by themselves.

I hve heard scattered reports of decent shoots from time to time but most people seem to be saying they are not seeing much. My scouting as found some birds but they rarely move for more then 20 minutes at first light and spend the rest of the day loafing around before returning to the roost well into dark.

hunted a pond that I have in MD and found empty skies until about pitch dark when they returned by the hundreds with wood ducks and some teal still mixed in the bunch of mallards and blacks. Had a few flights of canadas come to the farm in the morning and the whole roost came at once they fed for about 20 minutes and then returned to the loafing pond for the rest of the day, the mild 60 degree temps did not help.

Hope everyone had a good Xmas and good luck for the rest of the year it may be a struggle is the weather doesnt show,

Where are all the ducks? Have they left Canada yet..lol, or are they in New York waiting for some cold weather to push them down?
