Heard of a few here and a few there but nothing really. There was no water in the impound so that made for not much fun. It is obviously September. Is it Thanksgiving yet?

Nothing. Heard ten shots. Saw about twenty big ducks, but no teal at all.

Friends who hunted further south of us in a marsh had 6 to 8 decoy in and shot two teal at first light, but that was all.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 60-65 Degrees
Took a ride down Rt. 9 from Augustine to Bombay Hook and did not see much. Hopefully the teal are hiding. I saw a bunch of shovelers but that was about it. We will see what tomorrow brings.

New Castle County Brandywine Hundred 07-29-2007 08:31
Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
While not migrating birds, I have seen an uncommon number of resident mallards this year. I usually see 2 or 3 a season, but there are about two dozen in the area. We also see two or three flocks of geese fly over our house, but now we see mallards as well.

We have always had dove her, But this year is a bumper crop, with doves the most common bird I see in my neighborhood.

Hope this means that conditions are good and while one can hardly throw a stone in my neighborhood, let alone shoot a gun, perhaps some spillage will occur to the areas you can shoot.

Duck Stamp Legislation 06-19-2007 11:07

WATER: Bipartisan House bill would divert duck stamp money to wetlands (06/19/2007)
Lucy Kafanov, E&E Daily reporter

Wetland protection efforts would get a big boost under a House bill floated last week that would increase the price of duck stamps to pump more cash into a federal purchasing program.

Behind the effort are Reps. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) and Don Young (R-Alaska), who yesterday reintroduced a bill that would reauthorize the Wetlands Loan Act. Their measure would provide a $400 million advance of federal duck stamp money over the next 10 years for wetlands conservation.

The funding would come from an increase in the cost of duck stamps, decorative stamps the federal government issues each year. Hunters, as well as some stamp collectors and other wildlife enthusiasts, buy the stamps for collections or to gain access to wildlife refuges.

The cost of the loan would be offset by an incremental increase in the price of the federal duck stamp.

Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) introduced the companion measure in the Senate, S. 272, earlier this year.

According to Thompson’s office, the United States continues to lose more than 80,000 acres of wetlands annually. The bill would provide landowners with the option to work with the Fish and Wildlife Service to voluntarily conserve their land through conservation easements, his office said.

“We have lost more than half of our natural wetlands,” Thompson said in a release. “When we lose our wetlands, we lose natural flood protection and critical habitat for fish and wildlife.”

FWS would use the money generated by the bill to buy lands for national wildlife refuges and to assist landowners in protecting existing wetlands and surrounding duck habitat in key breeding grounds and other areas across the country.

Cloudy, Occassional Rain Showers – 40-45 Degrees
Went for a ride to see all the birds everyone has been seeing. And saw very little.Bombay hook had maybe 150 ducks and 50 canadas on the whole hook.Ice was still thick, the fields outside the hook where white with sky goats (SNOW GEESE) and a few canadas.Maybe i just got there 1 day to late.Jerry;I trust you and your crew so i am not doubting that you seen a lot of birds. But from Woodland to the Creek i bet i didn’t see 300 birds except on the Ranch he has about 10,000. You know who i mean.

Prime Hook is dead. Froze solid. Maybe 300 birds max. Creeks, and rivers are full here down by the bay. Got back to the house and had Mallards, Blacks, Ringnecks, Buffleheads, Hoodies, Redhead/canvasback (didn’t have binoculars and was too far out)and widgeons!!!
